The Complaints Desk at OBJECT Rotterdam

At OBJECT Rotterdam 2026 the collection opened a desk where visitors could file a complaint about their own office. The queue was long. The complaints were familiar.

The Boring Complaint Form
The form. Eleven complaints to tick, one line for your own.

For OBJECT Rotterdam 2026 we did not build a stand. We opened a department. The Complaints Desk is a counter of Boring furniture, staffed by Boring staff, where visitors could file a complaint about the office they work in now: the monitor that looks up to them, the coat stand that constantly falls over, the lighting that makes them look like they feel, the cables that appear to be multiplying.

Complaints were taken in writing, on a form, with a Boring Pen. Every visitor got a signed receipt. The complaints were documented and will, at an appropriate juncture, inform internal considerations.

Most of them have one answer. A desk that stays level, a chair that is ergonomic in practice, a coat stand that stands, a light below UGR 16, a cable guide that keeps the cables where they are. All in one grey, so the office can stop being the subject.
