Desks

A Boring desk is the stage upon which the quotidian drama of office life unfolds quietly and with exemplary compliance. The Future Desk goes up and down on a grey column with a grey control box and a grey hand control, and remembers three heights. The Future Duo Desk does the same for two people who have agreed not to talk. The Classic Sit Stand Desk has been doing it since 2016 and sees no reason to stop. None of them calls attention to itself.

Boring fact

The Coat Stand weighs 40 kilograms and has 24 hooks: 16 on the top ring and 8 on the lower one, for the smaller colleagues. Four umbrellas fit in the middle.

Chairs

The Boring task chair is the unsung hero of sedentary office workers: a chair so neutral that it makes beige seem flamboyant. Clad head to wheel in uniform grey, it is ergonomically competent but too polite to brag about it. Its specialty is being sat upon and then promptly forgotten.

Boring fact

The 2016 catalogue by Sanne Beeren was nominated for Best Dutch Book Design. Every spread carried the line It is not about furniture.

Storage

Boring cabinets are the silent sentinels of the office, storage units so nondescript that they practically become part of the floor. They dutifully hold all the things you do not really want to deal with: paperwork, old binders, that mysterious tangle of cables, and enough office snacks to survive a minor apocalypse. The cabinet does not judge.

Boring fact

The Boring Mobile at BIG ART 2021 was 42 clocks on a six metre mobile, turning counter clockwise, to a soundtrack of office sounds by Coen Berrier. Including a fax machine.

Screens and panels

Screens and panels are what make an open plan office bearable. They take sound out of the room and legs out of sight. Both come in the lengths of the desks, upholstered in the same fabric as the chairs, so the floor reads as one family.

Boring fact

Sina Fashion in China called the collection avant-garde and fun, in obvious contrast to its name. We took that as a compliment, which it may not have been.

Office

The things every office has and nobody chose. A coat stand that weighs as much as a colleague, a pendant light that meets every norm there is, a clock and a bin. All in the one grey.

Boring fact

Everything ships in cardboard. The boxes are the only things in the collection that are not grey, and only because cardboard already comes in a colour that minds its own business.

Flooring

The floor is the largest grey surface in the office and the one nobody looks at. Carpet tiles with Tarkett and Marmoleum with Forbo, both in a Boring grey made for the collection.

Boring fact

The notebook has grey pages edges and a grey ribbon. The paper inside is white, because we are not monsters.
