Buying an electric standing desk: what to look for
An electric standing desk is bought for years. Where the difference lies: the height range, the columns, the noise, the top, and whether parts will still exist in five years.
The height range
Look at the lowest and the highest position. A wide range means both short and tall people can sit and stand properly. The Future Desk goes from 650 to 1300 millimetres, the Classic Sit-Stand Desk from 630 to 1170.
The columns do the work
On an electric desk the lifting columns and the control box matter most. Ask where they come from and how long the warranty is. The columns of the Classic Sit-Stand Desk are made in Germany and carry a five year warranty of their own.
Check speed and noise too. The Future Desk moves at 50 millimetres per second at 42 decibels and carries 100 kilograms dynamic load. Three memory positions save searching for the right height every time.
Two legs or four
Two legs give more legroom and are easier to assemble yourself: the Future Desk arrives flat in a box and goes up without a technician. Four legs are steadier at longer lengths and look calmer in a long row: the Classic Sit-Stand Desk comes in lengths from 1200 to 2200 millimetres, also as a duo.
The top and the colour
The Future Desk top is OrganicBoard Pure by Pfleiderer, 25 millimetres, made from 100 percent recycled wood with a plant based glue. Since 2026 everything under the top is grey too: the control box, the cables and the hand control. The desk disappears into the room, which is the point.
Parts and service
A cheap desk becomes expensive when the control box fails in year three and there are no parts. At Boring Collection parts are available for at least five years after purchase, and the warranty on new products is 24 months.
